Youth & Educational Development at Higher Ground Community Development grows out of a simple belief: when young people can see a future for themselves, they are far less likely to be defined by their past. Many of the students we meet are bright and capable, but no one has ever taken the time to walk beside them as they plan for life after high school.

Our College Preparation Seminars do exactly that. In clear language, we explain applications, deadlines, financial aid, and what colleges are really looking for. Students and families often arrive feeling overwhelmed and leave with checklists, timelines, and a sense of relief.

For those still figuring out their direction, Youth Mentoring Circles provide a safe place to talk, ask hard questions, and hear from caring adults who have walked similar roads. These small groups mix encouragement with accountability, helping students build character as well as confidence.

We know cost can be a barrier, so Scholarship Application Support is a key part of this work. Together, we search for opportunities, craft personal statements, and organize paperwork. We have watched students who once said, "People like me do not get scholarships," open award letters with tears in their eyes.

Youth Leadership Training invites students to step into responsibility. Through interactive activities, service projects, and public speaking practice, they learn to lead in classrooms, churches, and neighborhoods-not someday, but now.

For students who need focused guidance, our Ignite Your Future - College & Career Coaching program offers 90 days of one-on-one support. We help them set goals, explore careers, and build an action plan they can actually follow. Over time, we see shoulders straighten, voices grow stronger, and young people begin to say, "I can do this," and truly believe it.
