College & Career Coaching

College & Career Coaching at Higher Ground Community Development is our way of standing in the gap during one of the most uncertain seasons of a young person's life. Over 90 days, we walk with students who are asking, "What comes after graduation?" and help them turn that question into a step-by-step plan.

Each student is paired with a mentor who provides consistent One-on-One Mentoring. These sessions are more than academic check-ins. We talk about fears, family expectations, finances, and faith. We celebrate small wins, and we stay when things feel confusing or delayed.

College Application Guidance is a core part of the process. Together, we build a list of schools or training programs that make sense academically, financially, and personally. We review applications line by line, strengthen essays so they sound like the student's true voice, and keep track of every deadline so nothing is missed simply because life got busy.

For many students, colleges feel distant until they actually walk the campus. That is why we include Campus Visit Coordination. We help families schedule visits, ask the right questions, and compare what they see with the goals the student has set. A quiet student who once said, "I do not belong here," often leaves a visit saying, "I can see myself on this campus."

Throughout the coaching period, we blend career exploration, goal setting, and practical planning. By the end, students have an individualized roadmap that may point toward a university, community college, trade program, military service, or direct entry into the workforce. Most importantly, they gain the confidence and clarity to own their next steps, rather than drifting into whatever happens next.
