Health & Wellness Resources

Health & Wellness Resources at Higher Ground Community Development grew from listening to families share how hard it can be to stay healthy when everyday life is already a struggle. We saw parents skipping their own appointments so children could be seen, seniors confused by forms, and neighbors unsure where to turn for reliable information.
Our role is to be a bridge. We connect community members with trusted healthcare providers, screenings, and wellness programs that match their needs and circumstances. Sometimes that looks like guiding someone through finding a primary care doctor. Other times, it means pointing a resident to mental health support, nutrition education, or chronic disease workshops.
We partner with clinics, hospitals, and local organizations to host events where residents can check blood pressure, learn about diabetes, or talk privately with professionals. For many, it is the first time anyone has explained test results or treatment options in plain language.
Education is woven through all of this. We share resources on topics such as managing stress, creating healthier meals on a tight budget, staying active without a gym membership, and recognizing when it is time to seek help. Families tell us that these practical tools feel realistic rather than out of reach.
Over time, we have seen that when people gain access to health information and services they can trust, they stand taller in every area of life. Children miss fewer days of school, parents have more energy for work, and elders feel less alone. Our health and wellness work is not just about doctor visits; it is about helping neighbors build the strength to pursue their goals, care for their families, and stay present for the future they are working so hard to create.
